Job Description

The Camp Pastor serves as the cornerstone of staff development and spiritual care for the entire summer program. This strategic position balances the spiritual oversight, mentorship, and discipline of all program staff with the direct management and delivery of the intensive youth discipleship program (Elevate). This leader is a primary resource for staff growth in faith and professional competency.

Duties & Responsibilities

Staff & Spiritual Development (Personnel Management)

  • Develop a comprehensive, intentional plan for staff spiritual care and professional/personal development.
  • Schedule and prepare for all staff devotions and dedicated staff training sessions.
  • Collect and organize resources necessary to support staff roles and responsibilities.
  • Facilitate mentorship for all staff, ensuring they connect with the Camp Pastor or other appropriate mentors for spiritual well-being.
  • Lead or assign the daily staff devotions, ensuring they are well-received and spiritually impactful.
  • Collaborate with staff to write individual development plans and formally assess their professional and personal growth throughout the summer.
  • Immediately address and manage toxic behaviour and assist the Executive Director and Summer Camp Manager with staff discipline as required.

Elevate Discipleship Program Management

  • Plan the comprehensive delivery of the Elevate discipleship program, including schedules, activities, and curriculum development.
  • Coordinate Elevate program logistics (including schedules and camper responsibilities) with the Summer Camp Manager to ensure a seamless fit into the overall camp operations.
  • Provide spiritual guidance and mentoring support to the Elevate Counsellors, equipping them to effectively develop strong faith and competency in service among the Elevate Campers.
  • Lead the Elevate Counsellors and campers by clearly communicating the schedule, expectations, feedback, plans, and camp policies/procedures.
  • Delegate tasks to the Elevate Counsellors and continuously monitor the program’s effectiveness.
  • Monitor the Program and submit detailed evaluation reports to the Summer Camp Manager.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of camping ministry and a deep understanding of pastoral ministry and youth discipleship.
  • Extensive experience in summer camps, staff care, and discipleship programming (Minimum 1 year experience in a related field is required).
  • Well-developed interpersonal, communication (written and spoken), and leadership skills.
  • Completion or working toward a degree in a related subject/field.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers.
  • Current First Aid and CPR Training (or willingness to obtain).
Working Conditions
  • The Camp Pastor will be on-site for all assigned programming.

Training

The Camp Pastor will receive 4 days of staff training. This training will include facility orientation, policy and procedure training, camper check-in and registration, team-building activities, and compensation review. We will also highlight workplace health and safety practices.
