Read | A Hard Conversation with Scripture
It’s early; kids are typically not awake yet. I sit down at the kitchen table, and I begin my day with a hard conversation with scripture. I like using the verse of the day. It’s a leather-bound journal, and I start by handwriting the passage, and then I move to a time of prayer and reflection. I consider what is true about the verse and what is false about my life in light of the passage. It never fails to bring clarity, but it is often hard.
For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.
Hebrews 4:12 NLT
Hard conversations are a regular part of my mornings with God, but there are also encouraging moments. When I read a passage, I can sometimes say, “that it is true about me – that’s good.” It may not be fully developed in me yet, but it is there. It is both encouraging and challenging to be exposed by scripture and the Holy Spirit. I would encourage you to begin (or continue) a regular habit of a hard conversation with scripture. Don’t be afraid of these talks with God. They may be challenging, but they are always good.
Prayer Requests
I appreciate you praying for the camp and God’s kingdom as a whole. Here are a few items you can be praying about this week.
This Next week we hope to be able to launch registrations for summer camps. It is essentially a waitlist registration format with no deposits required until later in the year. Let’s pray for a summer full of campers and many lives transformed.
The Bible Story Podcast continues to grow, which is very exciting. We have some fun and exciting plans that include live episodes this summer and a single video episode. I ask that you pray for us in the creative design and development of these ideas and that they will grow God’s kingdom and help families grow closer to God together!
Finally, pray for Keith Nelson, our facilities director. He has been working diligently on renovating old cabins for new purposes. A couple of the challenges beyond the cold weather are adapting old structures that often need a bit of repair along with the reno and finding building materials at a reasonable cost.
This week, have a hard conversation with scripture; let it expose your thoughts and desires! Thanks for praying there is no ministry apart from Christ. Pray with urgency and expectation. I will talk to you next week.
