Job Description

The Day Camp Counsellor is a paid position responsible for the safe supervision, mentoring, and engagement of kids ages 4-10 in the Day Camp program. This role is crucial for delivering assigned activities, supporting the program schedule planned by the Summer Camp Manager, and introducing younger campers to the foundations of the Christian Faith in a fun, safe environment.

Duties & Responsibilities

Program Delivery and Mentorship

  • Deliver assigned activities, schedules, and curriculum segments as prepared by the Summer Camp Manager.
  • Assist the Summer Camp Manager with specific planning and preparation tasks as assigned (e.g., preparing welcome materials, setting up program areas).
  • Provide mentorship and dedicated support to Day Campers, helping them engage with camp activities and faith foundations.
  • Lead engaging welcomes and goodbyes with parents and campers daily.
  • Set a consistent, positive, and faith-centered example for all campers.

Camper Safety and Support

  • Ensure the physical, spiritual, and emotional safety of all assigned Day Campers at all times.
  • Know and enforce all camp policies and procedures, including specific Day Camp rules.
  • Participate in assigned general cleaning duties, which may include bathrooms, common areas, dishes, and program spaces.
  • Report all incidents, policy violations, and camper concerns immediately to the Summer Camp Manager.
  • Participate fully in all Day Camp programming.
  • Alternative duties will be assigned during Family Camps.

Reporting and Follow-up

  • Actively monitor the effectiveness of program delivery and camper engagement, providing observational feedback to the Summer Camp Manager.
  • Write personalized follow-up cards for each assigned camper and ensure campers complete the camp session survey.
  • Submit detailed reports on camper progress and any program anomalies to the Summer Camp Manager.
Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the summer camp industry and experience working with kids and youth (ages 4-10) is critical.
  • Strong desire and ability to mentor youth.
  • Well-developed faith and interpersonal skills are critical.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers.
  • Current First Aid and CPR Training is required (or willingness to obtain).
Working Conditions

The Day Camp Counsellor will be on-site for all Day Camp programming. Room and board will be provided.

Training

The Day Camp Counsellor will receive 4 days of staff training. This training will include facility orientation, policy and procedure training, camper check-in and registration, team-building activities, and compensation review. We will also highlight workplace health and safety practices.
